Leonardo Da Vinci: The mechanics of Genius Exhibition

Da Vinci exhibition - Science Museum

This Da Vinci exhibition is a technical exhibition on how Leonardo Da Vinci on the mechanics of his inventions. I thought it wold be a good idea to check it out as I am working on the mechanical nuts and bolts of my mythological creature that I need to create. Since it is a Science museum, the museum has rebuild his mechanics again in a smaller scale 3D model and explanation of how Da Vinci has experiment on each device to get it to work.

It was extremely helpful, as there were also interactive toys to let you play and have a closer look at the mechanics. I was especially interested in the parachute, as it is a curve shape, and to sew it together, there are several rods that stick out of the main stem of the rod, and cloth is stretched and sewed accordingly. Previously, when I was experimentating on stretching a curve with a cloth, I have difficulty in doing so, maybe that's the solution to do a smoother curve with fabric that way. Need to experiment if that works.

The other I was very intrigued is the mechanical wings that Da Vinci has done. I think my mechanical engineer friend will be able to do something like that. I am not sure I fully understand, as I have to sort out if I follow through, would that be able to work on my puppet. I'll know soon and see if that can be also applied.

At the end of the show, strangely, there was a theatre that Da Vinci set, it was strangely entertaining, be as it may might be slightly slow. There was a gauze at the end of a very vast theatre, and gods, dieties and stars are appearing on the edge of the mountains. One can also see stars and fireworks projecting on the gauze. I can see the projector on the top of the box, and projecting on the gauze. Quite amusing. :)
